The Sotheby's Asia newsletter dropped through my letterbox the other day and this picture by Wu Guangzhong entitled The Lion Grove Garden, reminded me of the work of Jackson Pollock. It was sold in April 2011 for USD3.7m
Rich pickings indeed, but that was well and truly eclipsed by Lotus and Mandarin Ducks by Zhang Daqian, which sold for USD24.5m. Yes, that's right, you read it correctly - twenty four and a half million dollars. Sales in Asia for Sotheby's has exceeded USD1 billion in 2011. Thank goodness I prefer a different genre and style. I should simply hate to compete with that.
