A Pair of Wedgwood Basalt Ewers, emblematic of water and wine, mounted as lamps. Height 15 inches.
For sale at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. Estimate USD2,000-4,000.
If you didn't like the black and white version, you are unlikely to enjoy these either. Even as lamps I find them rather desirable. But not essential.

On the contrary, a great many of my acquaintances prefer the all-black basalt. It is a pity they have been drilled, however.
Hello:
We much prefer them as all black, but not as lamps. That is not to our liking, we are afraid!!
I find these rather handsome, although like The Devoted Classicist I regret their altered state.
Why are these "not essential" --do you not like Wedgwood, basalt-ware, classical forms, large pieces, etc? For me, the main factor that would make me pass these is their price--for that much money, I would like to consider what other choices I could make.
Okay I like these even more.
Very handsome, though I prefer the black and white version.
A dear friend of mine recently bought a pair of these very ewers. Delightful. He was thrilled to get them at what he thought was a very reasonable price. I suspect that prices are coming down for basalt, at least based on what I paid for my urns (as seen on my current post) and what my friend pasid for his.
It is quite easy to have a good ceramic restoratin specialist repair the holes, so none would be aware of them absent black lighting the pieces.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I've been "under the weather", so my apologies for the delayed response.
DC & Hattatts - see Reggie's comment about putting them back as ewers.
Parnassus - yes, but I was playing on my previous comment...
Very beautiful dahhling...
feel better soon.
If anyone is interested, there is another pair of the black in Weschler's sale on 3 Feb, estimated at USD 3K-5K, and not as lamps: weschlers.com, sale 1400, lot 324.
Best -
