Star of wonder

The view from our balcony at night has been illuminated by the light box of a fitness centre of the neighbouring condo. It is part of the same development of The Sukhothai hotel whose courtyard water garden, (on the left) is also lit up at night and quite often used for parties at this time of year.

The scene, and the saxophone vibrato (last night at least), makes for a pleasing backdrop when sipping the evening's cocktail. So far this year we have not spent much time doing either - sitting out on the balcony, or sipping cocktails, as one of us is on the wagon, keeping the other's inclinations in check. This madly abstemious behaviour permits earlier swimming or exercising, and upon our return from the pool this morning I was happy to see that erection, (for it is indeed thus), of the lobby's Christmas tree had been completed, and it's not a bad effort this time around. I might even permit a photograph of it to grace a future edition of the blog. It is after all Christmas, and the spirit of goodwill abounds.

Oh please, a picture. No tree erection in my home this season as we are in the middle of a huge renovation.

My heart stopped for a second when I came to the word erection. Phew! I'm glad it was only that of a Christmas tree.

You're lucky that you have such a nice balcony combined with a view. So many balconies in Taiwan are merely functional, rather narrow and not really designed for sitting or relaxing. Perhaps the mosquitoes have something to do with it--are they a problem for your balcony?

Hi darling! Sorry I have neglected you so long but hoping to catch up with everyone soon. Meanwhile
it's the Nightmare before Christmas.. Love Rosie xx

After prior years, maybe your bar of expectations has been lowered. I second a posting of a picture of the tree.

Carol - we'll see about the tree photo, but I'm sorry about the erectile dysfunction.

lindaraxa - indeed.

Parnassus - we don't have a mosquito problem here, but maybe it's too rarefied up here (!). Usually it's quite breezy in the evenings too.

Rosie - what a joy to hear from you. I was only just yesterday thinking that it had been a long time, et voila...

Enjoy the nightmare. There's no other way to endure it. (I just avoid Christmas.)

Diogenes - I think you may have something there. I took another longer look at the endeavours, and perhaps there does need to be a bit of tweaking before it can be exposed to the public. Otherwise it would be indecent exposure.

Oh go on let me see it!

That really is the perfect balcony for cocktails, if I was standing there I would feel as if I was in a film, it's so glamorous and sophisticated.

The amendments to the tree have not been effected, but may be in the next couple of days, in which case I will post.

You can be on my film set any day.

I was thinking of you yesterday when I watching the Claridge's programme. I have to say, it is so much better than the one about the Savoy. Loved the attention to detail, which is what it's all about really, innit?

It is a pretty view at night. I hope the music is not too intrusive.

Your orchids are beautiful! We haven't a tree this year, due to our temporary downsizing, but when we up size next year we will have to find a good sized one, well trimmed, to make up for it.

I must confess that sometimes it can be obtrusive, (the noise pollution), but we mostly have the doors closed and the aircon on, so it's barely discernable. But generally speaking Thais love noise and seem oblivious to it - shopping malls, skytrains, subway trains, platforms etc etc. Luckily where we live, apart from the occasional soirees aforementioned, it's very quiet...bliss for me.
